Therapy
Hand Therapy is an integral component of the medical and surgical
management of an injured or diseased hand. It requires the
integration of the principles of rehabilitation with comprehensive
knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics
of the upper extremity. Hand therapy is a subspecialty of
Occupational Therapy and Hand Therapists have completed specialized
training, with many of them having passed a certifying examination. |
|
The
physicians at Hand Surgery Specialists recommend leading certified
Hand Therapists and prescribe individualized treatment. The key
to successful rehabilitation is early intervention and treatment.
Your physician will determine the urgency of your care, and if medically
necessary, you can begin therapy on the day of referral. Please
take your physician's prescription and treatment recommendations
with you so the therapist can develop a therapy program based on
our prescription.
Your
Hand Therapist will bill you independently and it is important for
you to check with your insurance company to ensure that the services
prescribed are covered.
| If
you are referred to a medical facility for therapy, let the
receptionist at the facility know that you may need authorization
before treatment. They will contact your insurance company.
If authorization is required, the therapy department may be
able to get this authorization. There are some companies that
will only let the specialists call for authorization and the
therapy department will need to contact our office so that we
can call and secure authorization. |
